“The Secret Life of Pets” is a disappointing movie that relies too heavily on physical humor and poorly written jokes. Young children may laugh, but adults will be bored out of their minds.
It’s a shame too because the trailer looked promising as it showed a variety of activities pets get into when their owners are gone. Think “Toy Story” but with cats and dogs—at least that is what it could have been.
Instead the “secret life” of the pets is merely a blip in the story. Basically the clever scenarios in the trailer are the only ones used in the movie. The script feels thrown together and the plot is unnecessarily confusing.
“The Secret Life of Pets” features the voice talent of Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Albert Brooks, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress, Bobby Moynihan and Steve Coogan.
Unfortunately the talent of this long list of comedians is entirely wasted as the dialogue offers little in the way of humor.
