The list of actors who form the ensemble cast in “Margin Call” is amazing and from the looks of the trailer their talents are put to good use. Hopefully the tone of the movie is more like a thriller and not a heavy-handed drama. Typically actors like Jeremy Irons and Kevin Spacey are attracted to a project like this based on the strength of the script. The fact that the writer, J.C. Chandor, also served as director is another good sign.
“Margin Call” is Chandor’s first full-length feature according to imdb.com. Apparently the only thing he directed before was a short called “Despacito” with Will Arnet. “Margin Call” was nominated this year for a Golden Berlin Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. The Golden Berlin Bear is the highest prize awarded to the best film.
Here’s the synopsis: Set in the high-stakes world of the financial industry, Margin Call is a thriller entangling the key players at an investment firm during one perilous 24-hour period in the early stages of the 2008 financial crisis. Stars Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgley, Simon Baker, Mary McDonnell, Demi Moore and Stanley Tucci. Written and directed by J.C. Chandor.
